Visa requirements depend on your nationality, so we recommend checking with your nearest South African embassy before travelling. Passports must be valid for six months with two blank pages. Most guests fly into Hoedspruit (HDS), followed by a one-hour road transfer to Makumu.
Early morning and late afternoon game drives offer the best light for wildlife photography. A 200–400mm zoom lens works well for wildlife, and guests can also photograph animals from Makumu’s ground-level photographic bunker.
Makumu is in a low-risk malaria area, and guests should consult their doctor before travelling. We recommend using insect repellent and sunscreen. The nearest medical facilities are in Hoedspruit, about an hour from the lodge.
